MISSION AUDIT AND STRATEGIC PLANNING TRAINING IN CIRMC

 From November 1-4 , 2019 , the Council for World Mission (CWM) through its Caribbean Office facilitated training in Mission Audit and Strategic Planning in the Cayman Islands Regional Mission Council. Twenty-one participants from five Congregations were led in the process by Mrs. Karen Francis, CWM Mission Secretary for the Caribbean, Rev. THE CHILD CARE AND PROTECTION POLICY

 (Extract from the Preamble of the Policy Document) At the Synod of 2015 the United Church in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands passed a resolution to develop a Child Care and Protection Policy for the whole church. A policy that would not only protect our children but would protect our leaders most of whom are volunteers. LIVING THE REFORMED FAITH

 October 31 each year is recognized as Reformation Day and the Sunday closest to that date as Reformation Sunday. In our Congregations this Sunday we will therefore celebrate the Reformation. This is of significance to us as in the United Church in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands our polity and ethos are based on the tenets of the Reformed Faith. The reformation motto "the Church reformed and always being reformed according to Scripture" is critical to our faith and praxis. As reformed Christians we continue to discern God’s will and purpose as we read the Scripture and as we open ourselves to the leading of the Holy Spirit. please click here for more information (PDF file) |

MODERATOR ENDS SUCCESSFUL VISIT TO CIRMC

 Moderator, the Rt. Rev. Dr. Gordon Cowans visited the Cayman Islands Regional Mission Council (CIRMC) from October 9-16, 2019. He was accompanied by the General Secretary the Rev. Norbert Stephens. The President Generals of the Women’s Fellowship and Men’s Fellowship as well as the National Treasurer of the Women’s Fellowship also visited CIRMC during the Moderator’s visit. At the Council meeting held on Tuesday October 15, 2019, the Chair, Ms. Angela Martins thanked the Moderator for the insight and wisdom which he shared during his visit. He was particularly impressed by the education being offered at CPHS and by the experiences he had at the various Congregational meetings. He commended the ministry at the Bethesda Counselling Centre and at the Beth- Shalom Mission. New Programme Secretary / Communications Officer appointed The Rev. Otto Menko has been appointed as the Programme Secretary/ Communications Officer for the Cayman Islands Regional Mission Council effective October 14, 2019. Council welcomes Rev.  RE-IMAGINING WORSHIP AS ACTS OF DEFIANCE AND ALTERNATIVES IN THE CONTEXT OF EMPIRE by Rev. Rohan Forrester As I reflect on the focus of worship for the first quarter of 2019, I am inclined to re-imagine worship as defined at a recently held Council for World Mission (CWM) Workshop on liturgy. The workshop was held in Kingston, Jamaica from November 30 to December 6, 2018. I had the privilege along with Rev. Dr. Ralph Hoyte and RDGS Mrs. Mauleen Henry to represent the United Church in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands (UCJCI). The Workshop was led by Cláudio Carvalhaes and has really served as a precursor for what we are now exploring in worship in the UCJCI. The theme of the workshop, “Reimagining Worship as Acts of Defiance and Alternatives in the Context of Empire” enabled the important aspect of redefining liturgy that meets needs. The word liturgy from the original Greek word leitourgia means "service," "ministry," or "work of the people" and was used for any public work of the people, not only religious services. please click here for more information (PDF file) |

 As we journey through the first three months of 2019, our focus has been on ‘The Disciples in Worship’. We are reminded that the United Church in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands believes that truly ‘renewed Congregations’ are energized and empowered for development and growth; have members committed to pursuing personal relationships with God through prayer ,study and worship , presenting themselves as ‘light of the world and salt of the earth’ , displaying high standards of personal and professional integrity and discipline in their ministry, as we seek to live out our vision’ Last Sunday, February 2, 2019, at the East End United Church, Rev.  The United Church in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands, the Cayman Prep and High School and the Girls’ Brigade were among the sixty organizations recognized as Founding Organizations in the Cayman Islands on National Heroes Day, January 28, 2019. The theme of the day was ‘Celebrating the Creation of our Coat of Arms’. Vestrymen and Justices of the Peace who served between 1956-1958 were honoured. They served in the Legislative Assembly when Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II conferred the Royal Warrant for the Cayman Coat of Arms on May 14, 1958. Several Vestrymen and Justices of the Peace who were members of the then Presbyterian Church were recognized and honoured. please click here for more information (PDF file) |
