Human Trafficking: Advocacy and Justice in respect of Children and Young People
Beginning 13 March through 16 March 2014, the United Church in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands (UCJCI) will host the Council for World Mission’s (CWM), Caribbean Region, Regional Assembly.Some seventy persons will meet at the Four Seasons Hotel, Kingston, Jamaica to focus issues relating to Human Trafficking; Advocacy and Justice in respect of Children and Young People.
The United Church's Synod Office reports that we are grateful that the Jamaican Security Force, Ministry of Justice, the Child Development Agency (CDA), Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA), along with other community groups such as: Jamaica Association of Transport Owners and Operators (JATOO), Route Taxi Association of Jamaica Ltd. (RTAJ) and other Agencies in support of Child Safety and Rights are in partnership with the Church on these issues.
The main objective of these meetings is to build awareness and encourage action among congregations. Through the presentation of facts, figures and stories of persons who have had grueling experiences, it is hoped, that the participants will become ‘suspicious’ of potential cases/offences. More importantly, attendees will be stirred to action through the establishment of appropriate actions, programmes/initiatives and ministries.
The public is invited to join us for the conversation with CISOCA, CDA, Hear the Children’s Cry, Ministry of Justice, National Security and Religious Groups among others on Thursday 13 March at 3:00 p.m at the Four Seasons Hotel.
All are invited to join us for the presentation of ‘Where Is Melissa?’ on Saturday 15 March beginning at 7:00 p.m at the St. Andrew High School for Girls (10 Cecelio Ave, Kingston 10). ‘Where is Melissa?’ is an initiative of the UCJCI in partnership with the CWM which focuses Human Trafficking and Trafficking of Children in particular through drama.
Please be in prayer for this event, at which the Cayman Islands Regional Mission Council of the Church will be represented by the Rev. Donovan Myers of the Robert Young Memorial and Savannah United Churches.
