Lloyd (“Tony”) McField – “Civil Servant of the Month” and recipient also of the “Chief Officer’s Choice Award”

Sincere congratulations to well known Elmslie stalwart Lloyd Anthony McField, who was the recipient of the Government’s Employee of the Month award for January “for his team spirit and consistent reliability”, according to a Government Information Service (“GIS”) release. The Award is presented by the Hon. Deputy Governor to the person selected each month from amongst all employees across the Civil Service as best exemplifying the characteristics which the Award seeks to promote and recognise. “Tony”, as he is popularly known by all of us in the United Church, was also the recipient of the Chief Officer’s Choice Award. Hon. Mr. Franz Manderson referred to Mr. McField being viewed as the Postal Service’s “champion of change” and congratulated him also on his drive to provide high calibre customer service, as he cited a number of examples of both. Postmaster General Ms Sheena Glasgow also praised his encouragement of staff to embrace change: “He understands that mail processes must become more efficient and that improved customer service is critical to the future survival of the postal service.” The Government’s press release noted that Mr. McField unhesitatingly lends a hand to smoothen postal operations, wherever he sees a need regardless of the task, and went on to add that: “His empathy for his staff has garnered their abiding trust in him and he is often the first manager they approach to discuss challenges they face in the workplace. His non-discriminatory approach has enabled his rise through the ranks, according to his nominator.
Equally importantly, he is valued for unhesitatingly placing the department’s needs above his own, taking on added duties, working longer hours and even foregoing vacation time when job demands are heavy. During a notable period of three years when some mail processing supervisory posts were vacant, Mr. McField undertook these extra duties without additional remuneration, his nominator stated.
Mr. McField has also consistently displayed his civic mindedness when, over the years, he has volunteered his services to the Elections Office on General Election days to ensure the delivery of postal ballots.
‘I am deeply honoured to receive this recognition,’ Mr. McField said of his awards. He humbly accepts them on behalf of the staff whose hard work, he says, ensures smooth operations at the postal service. “I value quality team work and customer satisfaction as primary ingredients to efficient provision of service,” he added.” (Source GIS)
We in the United Church have also been witnesses to Tony’s willingness to step in and lend a hand with many different different tasks, and not just in Elmslie, where he has served in a variety of leadership roles over the years. He has often brought his special creative gifts to bear in order to design and arrange the venues and decor for Council-wide combined services and other events and we join in adding our congratulations and best wishes to Tony on being honoured by his colleagues in the Civil Service with these two awards and for his exemplary service to the Public over his 28 years in the Service.
To his brothers and sisters in the Church, Tony has humbly acknowledged our good wishes and simply asked if we would always remember him in our prayers, “that I would  continue to let Christ’s light shine in me”.
