Graduations, Medals, Records Broken and Other Accomplishments by Cayman Prep & High Students!

The 25th and 26th June were the evenings for the Year 11 and Year 13 students, respectively, to shine, as Cayman Prep and High School held its impressive Graduation and Leaving Ceremonies for those who have now completed their I/GCSE and A-Level examinations, respectively. Both sets of students were warmly commended by their teachers and school leaders for the quality of their work and dedication and their strong sense of care and community; and it is always uplifting to hear of the range of accomplishments of the students. It is also really exciting to hear the variety and types of tertiary studies the A-Level graduates are heading off to do, at top-quality universities. This year the Graduation Address to the A-Level students was given by Dr. Samantha Dorman, who noted that she had completed A-Levels at Prep exactly 10 years ago!

Over the last couple of weeks, all the other Year Groups also held their end of year ceremonies and received prizes and commendations for their accomplishments in their classes also.
 
Amongst other recent student news from the School:
• Year 2 students sat external examinations to determine their Progress in English (PIE) and Progress in Mathematics (PIM) for the first time, as the School continues to uses these international tools to help students make optimum progress throughout their time in the School and to keep preparing them well for the next level.
• Once again the Cayman Prep Sixth Form Team came tops in the “Brain Bowl” competition, winning every round! This is an internationally recognised competition geared to high school level academic subjects, and 8 local high schools took part, in Mathematics, English, Science and Caribbean History.
•  Students from both the primary and secondary years again took part fully in the Cayman Islands National Children’s Festival of the Arts, and the Junior and Junior-High Steel Bands won both Silver and Gold for their performances, with the Year 7 Juniors scoring the highest Gold award in the Junior category.
• Year 7 and 8 Students again this year took part in the UK Junior Maths Challenge, which is a written test taken under examination conditions.   The top 6% of students internationally are awarded gold certificates, the next 13% silver and the next 21% bronze. Our competing students obtained 5 gold, 5 silver and 18 bronze certificates!
• 13 of the 28 Cayman competitors at the Junior CARIFTA Swim Championships this year were from CPHS! The CPHS students all did well, and Zororo Mutomba broke CIASA records in 50M and 100M freestyle while Lauren Hew broke a 19 year CARIFTA record in the 100m Backstroke.
• Three CPHS students will represent Cayman at the Youth Olympic Games in China  in August and 2 in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in July/August – one in both (Lauren Hew)! (Five former CPHS students will also be amongst the 28 athletes taking part from Cayman.)
• Not to be overlooked is the children’s appreciation of, and commitment to, living as part of the wider community and creation of God, and they continue to support a number of local and international programmes to care for others and the environment, with their most recent efforts being used to benefit the National Trust’s conservation initiatives and the Feed our Future programme.

All the students, teachers and parents certainly deserve warm commendations for all that goes into ensuring such results in academics, creative arts and music, and sports, while learning to love God and neighbour! And so does  the School, for its cumulative record in partnering with students and parents to help equip our young people for fulfilling and fulsome lives.

This year we celebrate 65 years since the School was founded by our Church, then the Presbyterian Church, and we can certainly thank God for all that He has done to ennoble and enhance so many lives through the School during that period. Well done, all!
