Always Reforming by Rev. Otto Menko

Wednesday Oct 21, 2020

When thinking about Reformation, we instantly recall the
names of Martin Luther, John Calvin and the five ‘Solas’:

Sola scriptura (by Scripture alone)
Sola fide (by faith alone)
Sola gratia (by grace alone)
Solus Christus (Christ alone)
Soli Deo gloria (glory to God alone)

These, in a certain sense, sum up the essence of the Reformed
Faith which emerged from the 1517 reformation. However,
there is another aspect of Reformation that is lesser known but
equally important. It is expressed in the Latin slogan, “Ecclesia
reformata et semper reformanda secundum verbum Dei”, “The church Reformed and always reforming
according to the Word of God”.

Fishers of Men by Rev. Godfrey Meghoo

Wednesday Oct 14, 2020

Please read Mark 1:17-20
During the days of the Coronavirus, when there was a
lockdown, and people were not allowed to go into the sea, or to
go fishing, many persons missed the opportunity to do that very
thing—to catch fish, not only for putting food on the table, but
also for the fun of it!
I have felt the exhilaration of catching a fish. One has to get
ready for it. You need hook, line and sinker, and equally
important, some good bait. Catching a fish gives you a good
feeling inside. Sometimes, you are not sure whether the hook is
caught in a rock, or it is a heavy fish trying to get away! I have
even seen a young man catching 3 fish on one line—by
connecting more than one hook to the line. Some big fishermen
go fishing, not only to put supper on the family’s table, or for
the fun of it, but also for commercial use, as a business.

Are We All Evangelist? by Ms. April Ann Lewis

Wednesday Oct 07, 2020

Please read Ephesians 4:4-16

The letter to the Ephesians written by the Apostle Paul looks at
salvation from God’s point of view. Paul was a pragmatist, he
started churches, and of course, he was a missionary, spreading
the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
In this letter he gives us practical suggestions on how we are to
walk, and it is based on the doctrine we find in the first two
chapters on who we are in Christ.
Paul points out that we were made alive in Christ by accepting
God’s free gift of salvation. We became the followers, disciples
of Jesus Christ and as such we are expected to grow in our
relationship with God by reading God’s Word, engaging in
prayer daily, by fellowship and giving.

Christ is God’s Supreme Gift By Rev. Dr. Yvette Noble- Bloomfield

Wednesday Sep 23, 2020

Stewardship and the Disciple has been the theme and energy
in the United Church in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands since
July 2020. In these three months, we have focused on various
aspects of stewardship but with the underlying truth that
everything we possess is owned by God and we are called to be
wise stewards of what God has entrusted to us.

Responsible Stewardship is Genuine Neighborliness!by Rev. Euthman Wray, Ms. Camile Watt, Mr. Noel Wallace

Wednesday Sep 16, 2020

Please read: Leviticus 19:9-18 & Matthew19:16-24

Christian Stewardship is the highest form of a responsible
life. As we reflect on the passage in St. Matthew, we see where
the rich young ruler explored the question “what good thing
must I do to inherit eternal life”; the response Jesus gave
directed him to an accountable life, a life of Stewardship.
What is Christian Stewardship? Jay Morris in an article entitled
“The Wayward Journey” describes Stewardship as being called
upon to take care of what belongs to our Master, who has
created everything on our behalf. We are only its caretaker and
in the end we will be held accountable for how well we treat the
planet and its inhabitants.”

Stewards of the Community by Rev. Rohan Forrester Chair of CIRMC

Wednesday Sep 09, 2020

Please read Matthew 5:1-12
The fundamental principle of biblical stewardship declares that
God owns everything, we are simply managers or
administrators acting on God’s behalf. The fact is, we were
created in the image of a relational God who has always existed
in community: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It is for this reason,
we are stewards or managers of both the human community
(where we reside or work) and the Christian community (the
Church).

All We Possess is a Trust from God by Mr.Bryan Bothwell

Wednesday Sep 02, 2020

Please read 1Chronicles 29: 10 -18
The theme we have been invited to delve into today, should be
but a reminder to all people, “All we possess is a trust from
God.” However, many refuse to accept that, despite the
irrefutable evidence that truly we bring nothing into this world
and we take nothing with us when we leave. Another irrefutable
fact is that no matter how much you multiply nothing by, the
outcome is always nothing. Zero multiplied a million times is
still zero. So regardless of how hard you worked or how brilliant
you are, think carefully before claiming ‘I did it all myself’

Thank You Rev. Alice!

Wednesday Aug 26, 2020

Known as a woman of prayer and faith, Rev. Alice Blair’s
journey to the Ministry of Word and Sacrament began in the
early days of her childhood. For her, the Church was a place of
solace and prayer and although initially resistant, she discerned
that there was a call on her life to serve Christ and the Church.

Exploring the Meaning of ‘Dominion’-by Mr. Herman Wilson
The Triune God Who is God the Father, God the Son, and God
the Holy Spirit, created the universe and is sustaining it. God
exists beyond time, space and matter.
God created Adam and Eve, the first human beings, the
progenitors of the human race. God gave them what we term
the creation mandate.

Gifts of God…Gifts for God by Rev. Rohan Forrester

Wednesday Aug 19, 2020

The parable recorded in Matthew 25: 14-30 is often interpreted
as a stewardship lesson of investment, or a reminder to use skills
that we have rather than to hide them by serving ourselves and
not Christ. While these are reasonable and worthwhile
perspectives, they do not capture the larger picture of the
context of this parable.
This parable is one in a series of many Jesus tells in Matthew
about the end times (eschaton) as He nears Jerusalem and the
final events that will lead Him to the cross. The tension of this
journey is communicated in the parable with a sense of urgency
and importance.
