Advent 2 – PEACE
Thursday Dec 07, 2023
The Season of Advent reminds us of the importance of spiritual preparedness, of the readying of our hearts and minds for the life-transforming presence of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. On the 1st Sunday in Advent, we lit the candle of Hope in our churches as a reminder that as followers of Jesus Christ, we are the people of hope. On the 2nd Sunday in Advent, we light the candle of Peace. Jesus’ birth was announced by a great company of angels saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven and on earth peace to those on whom God’s favor rests.” (Luke 2:14) please click here for more information (PDF file) |

Re-ignite and spread the flames of Hope - Rev. Dr. Yvette Noble-Bloomfield
Thursday Nov 30, 2023
On Sunday, December 3, 2023, we will begin the new Liturgical Year by celebrating the first Sunday of Advent. During the Advent season, God calls us to prepare our hearts, our minds, our communities and our world for the second coming of Christ. God calls us to find hope, peace, joy and love as we make ourselves and our world ready to receive Him. We are conscious of the disagreements and tension that plague us in the home, society and even in the Church. Wars are also raging in some places across the world. In humility, we pray that hope, peace, joy and love will attend to us in this Advent season. please click here for more information (PDF file) |

Christ the King Sunday
Thursday Nov 23, 2023
This coming Sunday is called 'Christ the King Sunday,' and with it, we arrive at the end of the Church's Liturgical Year. It is the conclusion of the Churches' annual liturgical journey, which takes us through the life of Jesus Christ and the message of the Gospel, marking the most significant steps along the way. The name, 'Christ the King Sunday' reminds us of the eschatological dimension of our faith, namely, that at the end of time, our Lord will return to set in motion the unfolding of God's kingdom, as it will be established in all its fullness to the ends of the earth. please click here for more information (PDF file) |

Fan the fire in each other with integrity, accountability and encouragement!
Thursday Nov 16, 2023
Integrity is doing the right thing even when no one is looking, and accountability is about taking responsibility for our actions (or lack of action). Fanning the fire will require that we do the right thing by God’s standards and that we take responsibility for our stewardship. This includes the way we mentor others, allowing them just enough responsibility to grow (but not too much, so they don’t falter under the weight) and encouraging them along the way. please click here for more information (PDF file) |

Fan the fire with Wisdom - Mr. Bryan Bothwell
Thursday Nov 09, 2023
The theme for our discernment this week is “Fan the fire with Wisdom.” In the United Church, we spent October delving into the absolute necessity to “Reignite the Flame.” In November, we turned our focus to the fact that keeping a flame going strong does not end even with a successful Reigniting. It requires continuous attention and fuel so that the fire does not die down again since ashes cannot do the work for which we would have needed a fire in the first place. Even worse, perish the thought, should the fire die out completely. Therefore, for this month, we are looking at the need to “Fan the Fire” in order to ensure it is kept truly alive and ‘healthy.’ please click here for more information (PDF file) |

Re-ignited through Love: The Heart of Reformation - Rev. Otto Menko
Friday Oct 27, 2023
On October 31, 1517, Martin Luther, a thirty three years old German priest, friar of the Augustinian Order and a professor of moral theology at the University of Wittenberg, nailed a large-sized paper to the church door in Wittenberg. On that paper, he posted his 95 theses, highlighting the abuses within the Church of his time. Luther's grievances primarily centered on the sale of indulgences. The indulgences were certificates issued by the Church promising the buyers absolution from their sins. People could also purchase indulgences on behalf of their deceased loved ones, who, in return, were released from the torments of purgatory and could enter heaven. In reality, the sale of these certificates was a fundraising scheme employed by the Church, primarily to finance the construction of the St. Peter Basilica in Rome. please click here for more information (PDF file) |

Re-ignite From the Only True Source by Mr. Herman Wilson

The Christian walk is not without challenges, but believers are enabled to persevere in faith. Jesus Christ said that in this world we will experience trouble, but we should take heart because He has overcome the world. (cf. John 16:33) Upon conversion, a believer, a follower of Jesus Christ, becomes a child of God, a citizen of the kingdom of heaven, and is simultaneously a sojourner in this earthly realm, which is being influenced by Satan, the evil one. The evil one is the spirit that is now at work in those who will not believe or have not yet believed. Enlightened by the Holy Spirit, there are changes in a believer’s worldview. Some things that were once considered normal and acceptable, are no longer viewed in that regard, and inevitably wise adjustments in interpersonal relationships will be necessary yet avoiding total separation. There should be a gradual renewal of the mind despite the attendant challenges to the new way of life. please click here for more information (PDF file) |

Nehemiah on being Re-ignited by Mrs. Jusan Hamilton-Lewis
Thursday Oct 12, 2023
For the past weeks, we have been looking at the broad theme, Reignited by the Spirit. Through the story of Nehemiah, we explore what it teaches us about being reignited and revived. Nehemiah's story came from a place of "deadness" so to speak, the fire in Israel was broken down in more ways than one. Their homeland was in a dead state, and their relationship with God was in a dead state because their faith needed resuscitation. What does the story of Nehemiah teach us then about Reigniting Faith or revival of faith? please click here for more information (PDF file) |

Psalm 119: 9-11: “How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word. I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” After silver is mined, it has to go through a refining process. When heat is applied, all the impurities (called dross) in the silver float to the top and are removed by skimming. For the true beauty of silver to shine, it must undergo refinement to fulfill its purpose. please click here for more information (PDF file) |
