The Road Map

Beginning this new Journey as a Church we started a process fifteen years ago (2005) of rereading our context and discerning the signs of the time, towards meeting the spiritual (holistic) needs of the people we serve. This led to the Renewal and Transformation (R&T) Agenda of the United Church. At our Synod in 2009 the R& T agenda was enacted and the process has been one of mixed engagement/s and mixed review/s for the most part, for varying reasons. However, what cannot be denied, is, given where we found ourselves 12 years ago, it would have been very unproductive and disheartening to remain there. please click here for more information (PDF file) |

Christmas Message from the RDGS
Thursday Dec 24, 2020

Warm Christmas Greetings in the Name of Christ whose Incarnation we celebrate and whose Spirit attends to us. This has been a year of changes and challenges for most of us. For some, the challenges were minor but for others, significant movements have occurred. The world has experienced the ravages of the COVID-19 pandemic and the health and economic realities have been stark for many persons. In the Cayman Islands, we have bravely fought to keep the virus at bay, and we continue to pray for the political directorate and the health care practitioners who have led us during these months. The strong temptation has been for us to read and interpret everything through the lens of COVID-19. Yet, as we celebrate the Holy Season of Christmas and as we anticipate the dawn of a New Year, we can know with certainty that our vision will clear, and we will behold a new reality because of Christ. please click here for more information (PDF file) |

Advent 4 - Love
Wednesday Dec 16, 2020
|
|
During the first three Sundays, -and weeks- of Advent, Christians around the world focused on the themes of Hope, Peace, and Joy as essential aspects of our faith. Now, that we have arrived at the final week of this season, we complete our spiritual journey and preparation for Christmas by focusing on Love. The miracle of Christmas is the wonderful love of God which was poured out into this world and into every heart that is ready to receive Jesus. He is the love of God in human form, the Love Incarnate, the embodiment of God’s love please click here for more information (PDF file) |

Advent 3 - Reasons to Rejoice by Mrs Sonia Wallace

This is the season of Advent, a time when we primarily celebrate the coming of Jesus as a babe. It is also a time when we remember that there will be a second coming of Jesus to rule and reign. In our culture, we celebrate Advent as a time to share love and joy and decorate with amazing displays of lights to remind us that Jesus is the light of the world. Even while experiencing a pandemic, the excitement of the season brings with it the singing of carols, special decorations, family or office get-togethers and the pleasant expressions of Merry Christmas to those we meet. We began the season of Advent with a reflection on Hope. Last week we focused on Peace. During this third week in Advent, we turn our attention to Joy, and a few passages from the book of Isaiah, Psalms, and the New Testament will guide our thoughts. please click here for more information (PDF file) |

Advent 2 - The Sunday of Peace
Wednesday Dec 02, 2020
|
|
The Season of Advent reminds us of the importance of spiritual preparedness, of the readying of our hearts and minds for the life transforming presence of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. On the 1st Sunday in Advent we lit the candle of Hope in our churches as a reminder that as followers of Jesus Christ we are the people of hope. On the 2nd Sunday in Advent we light the candle of Peace. Jesus’ birth was announced by a great company of angels saying “Glory to God in the highest heaven and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” (Luke 2:14) But knowing all too well our sinful nature we may wonder if peace is possible at all. Wars, fights, conflicts, anxieties and stresses of all kinds mar our human existence on every possible level and there seems to be no respite from their destructive force. please click here for more information (PDF file) |

The Season of Advent
Wednesday Nov 25, 2020

December signals the coming of Christmas and so our preparations begin. There are gifts to buy, cards to send, menus to plan for, people to see. The four Sundays – and weeks - of Advent remind us of the importance of the spiritual aspect of this preparation, the readying of our hearts and minds, not only for the celebration of Jesus’ birth (1st coming) but also for His future return in glory (2nd coming) when He will set up His kingdom, judge His enemies, and reward the faithful, both living and dead. Advent is full of symbolism and meaning, which is also reflected by the themes of the four Sundays/weeks please click here for more information (PDF file) |

The Evangelist as Intercessor by Rev. Louis Sully

Please read Ephesians 1:15-18 The world's present situation has a psychological impact on people in many ways. That includes people who want to travel for leisure, for business, to visit friends and relatives. Those who are grieving find themselves isolated without any physical contact-the world seems to stop. There is a physical detachment that is not only troubles the mind of people but also creates confusion, fear, emotional distress, uncontrolled tears, and sickness. As much as we speak of technology, 5G network, etc.., we are underequipped to deal with this pandemic. If there is a time that we need each other the most, it is now. Now it is time to put aside all our differences to tend to each other. please click here for more information (PDF file) |

Encourage One Another- by Rev. Otto Menko

Please read Acts 27 The weather was promising. The merchant ship was gently rocking on the waves in the harbor located on the west shore of Crete. It was one of the larger vessels that regularly traversed the sea between Rome and the eastern Mediterranean, making a handsome profit for her owner. Presently it was loaded with grain destined for Rome and merchandise to be traded in ports on its way. But it also carried another ‘kind’ of cargo, prisoners, to be delivered to their fate: prison, execution or slavery. The apostle Paul was among this ragtag group of convicts. They were overseen by Julius, a Roman centurion of the Imperial Regiment and a small cohort of soldiers under his command. Julius paid special attention to Paul, for he was not considered a ‘common criminal’; he was supposed to be tried in the presence of the Emperor himself. please click here for more information (PDF file) |

The Evangelist’s Spiritual Leadership
Wednesday Nov 04, 2020

I want to start with a very human question for each of us - How can I stand before God? Paul, in the Epistle written to Titus styles himself as a slave (Greek: doulos) of God, joining a great line of prophets in the Bible who served God and God alone unreservedly. So how do you stand before God? Martin Luther found only one answer to the question- how can I stand before God – and it is by believing in the grace and mercy of Jesus Christ. We must determine the state of our soul in the midst of the battles of life and relationships, in the midst of the raging and roaring, in the midst of life and death. If we are to stand before God, what will give us credibility? It will only be the love of God in Christ Jesus which has wrought our salvation. Knowing that we are loved by God therefore enables us to give our life completely -as a slave to God. please click here for more information (PDF file) |

Rick Warren tells how he once saw a Peanuts cartoon that described the evangelistic strategy of many churches. Charlie Brown was practicing archery in his backyard. Instead of aiming at a target, he would shoot an arrow at his fence and then walk over and draw a target round wherever the arrow stuck. Lucy walked up and said, “Why are you doing this, Charlie Brown?” He replied, “This way I never miss!” please click here for more information (PDF file) |
