Let This Mind Be In You by Rev. Dr. Yvette Noble-Bloomfield RDGS-CIRMC

Friday Sep 29, 2023

The letter to the Church in Philippi has been described as one
of the most beautiful letters written by Paul. This was against
the background that Philippi was part of the Via Egnatia – the
road that connected Europe to Asia. It was indeed a chaotic
world, and Philippi was the scene of the battle during which
Brutus and Cassius were killed. William Shakespeare, in his
epic ‘Julius Caesar,’ identified Brutus and Cassius as the ones
who plotted against and eventually took the life of Julius
Caesar. The infamous question ‘Et tu Brute? – and you,
Brutus?’ remains within our culture as a question to ask when
one feels betrayed by a close friend.

The Cleft of the Rock by Ms. Katherine Jackson

Thursday Sep 21, 2023

My focus is on “The Cleft of the Rock” – our Island is pretty
much surrounded by iron shore – sharp, jagged rock in varying
tones of gray. Some of us have walked on it, some of us have
run and stumbled on it and probably gotten cut on it, but at least
most of us have seen it. Now, if you look closely, the iron shore
is not just all jagged edges pointing upward - the rock actually
has small “pockets” in it, as if someone had taken a tiny ice
cream scoop and carved out small circular bits.

Some of the pockets are larger than others, and these become
tidal pools, or simply saltwater settling in the crevices and a tiny
fish or two, perhaps little white sand divers, are living in them.

'Hydrating the Soul' by the Rt. Rev. Gary Harriott, Moderator - UCJCI

Thursday Sep 14, 2023

The world has been experiencing the impact of global warming,
even though some people would like to deny that reality.
Connecting to that reality is the high temperatures that have
been experienced over this summer. The heat has been on the
lips of many; persons have been given different instructions to
combat the possibility of heatstroke. Among such instructions,
drink more water to stay hydrated - at least 8-10 cups of water.

Lack of hydration has caused some people to end up in hospitals
and has even caused death resulting from heatstroke. We are
advised by medical professionals of how critical it is to keep
hydrated if the body and its organs are to function and if we are
to be protected from a medical crisis.

Realigning our Worship to bring Glory to God by Rev. Dr. Yvette Noble-Bloomfield

Thursday Sep 07, 2023

Psalm 149 is one of the five Hallelujah psalms found at the end
of the Book of Psalms. The Psalmist uses the refrain ‘Praise the
Lord’, at the beginning and end of the psalm to underscore the
fact that the psalm is dedicated to the praise of God. The words
of the Psalmist call us not only to a place of worship but to a
life of worship in time and eternity.

David, the Psalmist, understood God’s desire and invited the
congregation of saints to sing a new song. David, a musician of
immense talent, knew that the heart, soul, and mind needed to
become engaged in worship through praise, using the voice,
instruments, and dance. He also knew that the congregation, the
gathered people of God, best presented this praise before God.

Using Faith to Transform Lives by Ms. Amber Bothwell

Thursday Aug 31, 2023

As schools start back again after the summer, it can be hard not to become overwhelmed by the scope of evils with which our children and  young people are faced every day. Layered on top of age-old fears are the new complications from modern technology: eating disorders are now fueled by Instagram and selfies; dangerous fads spread more quickly than ever on TikTok; influencers from faraway countries spew hate-filled viewpoints in videos and podcasts. And these are dangers encountered with technologies that persons of older generations (like me!) struggle to understand, much less to guard our children against.

Parents are loved and respected in the Home by Rev. Otto Menko

Thursday Aug 17, 2023

Last week we turned our focus on the book of Genesis, chapter 37 and the family of the patriarch Jacob. Through the story of Jacob’s children, Joseph, and his brothers, we learned about the importance of the home as the primary environment for shaping and forming the development, growth, and life of family members. We also acknowledged that as an extension of that influence, the home can impact the events beyond the
immediate family circle and society.

This week we stay with the topic of The Realigned Home as an expression of God’s love, will, purpose, values, and standards and consider how the relationships among family members can promote a godly household.

Love Dwells Richly in the Realigned Home by Rev. Otto Menko

Thursday Aug 10, 2023

It is common knowledge that the home environment is a primary and fundamental building block for individual and family well-being. A  supportive, loving, and nurturing home has profound and lasting effects on our physical, emotional, and psychological development, shaping our lives and influencing our engagement with the world. It is especially so in the case of Christian homes, where the life of the entire family and its individual members must be an expression of God’s will, purpose, plan, values, and standards. In such homes, mutual love, compassion, forgiveness, respect, and unity can create a harmonious environment where everyone can thrive. In addition, the influences of a good Christian home can positively impact the life of future generations.

The Spirit Realigns the Home by Michael Bowerman

Thursday Aug 03, 2023

A few years ago, my wife Mary and I attended my parents' 78th wedding anniversary in England. Yes, you read aright – 78th! When they were interviewed by the local newspaper, the reporter indicated that he believed them to be the oldest married couple in the whole of Leicestershire – a county of about 700,000 people.

Some may ask, “How could any couple stay married that long?” In today’s Western world, many marriages hardly last into double digits. The Cayman Islands is reported to have a high divorce rate. In 2020, there were 318 divorces, nearly five for every 1000 people, and twice the rate in the United States.

THE GOD OF JACOB -- Rejoicing when Re-aligned with God by Rev Godfrey Meghoo

Wednesday Jul 26, 2023

In Psalm 46, we read: “God is our refuge and strength, a very
present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the
earth be removed and though the mountains be carried into the
midst of the sea; though the waters thereof roar and be troubled;
though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof…The
heathen raged; the kingdoms were moved; he uttered his voice;
the earth melted, The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob
is our refuge…Be still and know that I am God. I will be exalted
among the nations; I will be exalted in the earth. The Lord of
hosts is with us. The God of Jacob is our refuge.”
The story of Jacob is a classic example of realignment and
reconciliation after families have gone haywire by favoritism
and broken relationships. It tells about Jacob, the grandson of
Abraham running away from home because he had tricked his
twin-brother of his birthright, in effect getting their father Isaac
to change his will. When the brother heard about this, he said,
“When Dad dies there will be two funerals---one for Dad and
the other for you!”
