TRIBUTE TO HERBERT REDWAY SNR.

Wednesday Jan 17, 2024

SYNOD LEADERSHIP ANNOUNCES THE DEATH OF
102 YEAR-OLD RETIRED UCJCI MINISTER

My Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
Our beloved brother, Rev. Herbert Redway Sr., transitioned this
life last evening at home. He celebrated his 102nd birthday in
October 2023. He was ordained to the Ministry of Word and
Sacraments in the former Congregational Union of Jamaica in
1951, having completed his probationary period in the Shortwood
and North Street congregations. In the same year he was inducted
as pastor to the James Hill Charge in Clarendon.

In 1953 Rev. Redway and his family, set out for British Guiana, as
Guyana was then known, for service in the Arundel Congregational
Church, in the community of Buxton. They returned to Jamaica in
1957. He then served in the Four Paths Charge and played a
significant role in the establishment of the Denbigh Congregation.

PRINGLE HOME FOR GIRLS MAKES A DIFFERENCE

Thursday Jan 11, 2024

Johneen Fray says, “Never give up on your dreams”.

How would you describe your experience at Pringle Home?
Experiencing challenges that shaped my growth in
unexpected ways, my time at the Pringle Girl's home was a
transformative chapter in my life. Entering Pringle was a huge
change for me because I was coming from a place where I
didn’t socialize as much. It was the catalyst that drove me to
pursue social development. Getting used to this new
environment took some time. My friendship with the girls
developed into something that was almost like a family
bond. Although disagreements are bound to arise in any
close-knit group, our ability to work things out proved how
strong our relationship was; we survived stressful times only
to get back together at the end of the day to share precious
moments of laughter that strengthened our bonds.

16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM - END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS

Thursday Nov 30, 2023

The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based
Violence is a call for action to end violence
against women and girls. The recognition began
25 November, the International Day for the
Elimination of Violence against Women, and
continues until December 10 - Human Rights Day.

Most recently, the Caribbean and North American
Council for MIssion (CANACOM) hosted a seminar
which sensitized men in the Castleton charge of
United Churches on the issue of Gender-based
violence. The United Church has advocated for the
protection of women and girls in various ways, the
most consistent among them is by pariticipating in
the Thursdays in Black campaign which invites us
to take a stand against violence against all
persons. However, this effort is an ecumenical
endeavour - it knows no denominational lines.

CELEBRATING CHURCH SCHOOL MONTH

Wednesday Nov 08, 2023

Boys and girls, leaders of our Church School Ministry at
the Congregational, Regional and Synodical level, it is
with great joy that I bring you greetings on behalf of the
Synod of our church as you celebrate another Church
School Month. We celebrate the fact that more of our
Church Schools are now meeting compared to the
period during COVID 19. Girls and boys, your spiritual
and moral development are very important in
determining the kind of adult you become, and so, I am
encouraging you to ensure that you remain a part of
the church and that you invite other boys and girls to
join you in Church School. We need better countries,
and we believe that you, boys and girls, are critical in
helping our countries of Jamaica and the Cayman
Islands to be their best.
