UCJCI Update March 6 2019

The 41st Synod of the United Church in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands will be convened from April 30-May 2, 2019, in Montego Bay, St. James!

This biennial gathering of UCJCI Ministers and Council Delegates is a critical time in the life of our Church.

It is there that the Church’s strategic direction is set, policies agreed on, and avenues for growth determined!

UCJCI Update February 27 2019

What a day it was for the United Church’s UCYPF at Sports Day 2019! It was held on February 9 at Noranda Sports Complex, Discovery Bay, St. Ann, and it was a day of thrill and resounding cheer!!

Defending champions, the North-Eastern Regional Mission Council again won the title, and carried away The Nyle Jordan Ashwood Stewart Memorial Trophy awarded to the Winning Council!

Activities included track and field, football, netball, volleyball, domino competition, and theme expression.

UCJCI Update February 20 2019

Webster Memorial United Church (Jamaica) has propelled their evangelism efforts through a pointed, innovative strategy!

On Sunday, February 17, 2019, a group of approximately fifteen (15) members of the congregation, took to the streets, led by their Minister, Rev. Astor Carlyle, to issue about 400 pegs of oranges and good cheer to participants in the Sagicor Sigma Corporate Run, and invite them to Webster’s 9:45 a.m. service afterwards!

UCJCI Update February 13 2019

The United Church in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands was recognized at this year’s National Heroes Day Award Ceremony in  Grand Cayman, on January 28, 2019!

The event’s theme was “Celebrating the Creation of our Coat of Arms.” Indeed, since May 2018, the Cayman Islands has been celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Cayman Islands Coat of Arms (the first national symbol), with a full calendar of initiatives and activities that have been incredibly well received by the local community!

The United Church Women’s Fellowship celebrated Women’s Fellowship Week from January 27 to February 2, 2019!

Starting the week, were special services of thanksgiving and celebration throughout our congregations, including one Regional Service in the West, held at St. Paul’s United Church, Montego Bay, St. James.

Our Women’s Fellowship has been a transforming force in our Church. They have seen to the holistic development of not only the women who are members of the Movement but to their wider congregations and communities.

The United Church Young Adults Action Movement Month is celebrated each year in January!

In this year’s commemoration, the Movement launched its theme: “Get in the A.C.T.”, which means “Assertive Christians Transforming Lives”; hosted Regional Church Services at St. Paul’s United Church (Western Region), Webster Memorial United Church (North-Eastern Region), and Santa Cruz United Church (Southern Region), Prayer Breakfast at Ebenezer United Church, and Community Outreach Week.

UCJCI Update January 23 2019

Our dearly beloved, the late Rev. Royland Samuel Thompson, was laid to rest on January 17, 2019, at Meadowrest Memorial Gardens, St. Catherine.

The celebration and thanksgiving service for his life was one of fond remembrance, that captured the essence of a life well-lived…. A life of diligence and purpose, of caring and sharing; a husband to Rosemarie, father of Ronique, Ronaye, and Rodeen; brother, friend, and Minister, with such godly traits that endeared him to many persons.

The first Young Women Enabling Transformation (YWET) programme was hosted by the Council for World Mission (CWM) from October 7 to November 3, 2018, at the University of the West Indies, Kingston, Jamaica. Its purpose lay behind the mission of building the leadership capacity of young women in the CWM family of member churches.

Appreciation -  Mrs. Shernett Smith -retired Executive Director of  Shirley Retreat Hotel             
The United Church in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands seeks to wholeheartedly honour, and express appreciation for, Mrs. Shernett Smith, a faithful and longstanding member of the UCJCI, and recently retired Executive Director of our Shirley Retreat Hotel.
Mrs. Smith has been a member of this Church since 1959, under the antecedent Disciples of Christ denomination, and remains with us today. She is currently a member of King’s Gate United Church, and was employed to the UCJCI for 38 years!

The New Year is a time to give thanks for the year past, and a time of new hope.
We give thanks because there is much in life to be thankful for: Our family, friends, and grace and blessings sufficient for our daily living. Even if the past year had been difficult, we are still thankful for the loving comfort and warm support of those around us
