SUMMER ACTIVITIES - OPPORTUNITIES FOR MINISTRY WITH CHILDREN

Wednesday Aug 09, 2023

Summer presents rich opportunities for engaging our children. This engagement encompasses ministry which has the potential of being  far-reaching. Our congregations in UCJCI seize opportunities for activities which are fun, educational, evangelistic and nurturing and are designed
to impact the lives of children who attend our churches as well as others who reside in surrounding communities.

Competent and committed leaders design creative programmes which are often wholistic and take advantage of the extended time which may be used to capture the attention of our chirldren. In so doing, they also partner with parents and guardians to have their children involved in wholeshome activities while they may be away from formal education.

30TH CHURCHES EMANCIPATION LECTURE

Wednesday Aug 02, 2023

A LESSON OF EMANCIPATION

"The most powerful lesson of emancipation is that it became a reality because of the combined actions of three major forces:
  • The enslaved people rebelling against a situation they could no longer tolerate
  • The British colonial government led by Member of Parliament William Wilberforce along with other abolitionists generating a rising tide
  • of support abroad and in the Caribbean
  • The churches with missionaries on the ground, in the Caribbean in the early 19th century
This coalition brought emancipation in 1838 to an end; a system which was legally enforced, ethically normalized and socially accepted.

UCJCI IN CONFLICT RESOLUTION

Wednesday Jun 14, 2023

According to the Ministry of Justice (MOJ),
"Restorative Justice seeks to resolve conflict by
having all parties involved come together to reach
an agreement." The MOJ, which has responsibility
for Jamaica's Restorative Justice Programme, has
committed to informing and educating the public and
to invite participation in implementing this model
of justice. In so doing they reached out to churches
seeking collaboration. The UCJCI responded
positively, committing to a partnership with the
Government of Jamaica in delivering training to
members of our congregations. This collaboration
led to the beginning of training in NERMC on June 13
and 14 which saw 35 persons embarking on this

IS AI A TOOL FOR GOOD OR EVIL? by Rev. Kraig DeLeon Diedrick

Wednesday Jun 07, 2023

Many people have bought into the narrative that computers
are taking or have taken over the world. Well, the narrative
is true. THEY HAVE TAKEN OVER THE WORLD.
Computers are at the core of almost everything we do as a
society from banking to education, even our very
transportation. There seems to be a new kid on the block called
AI or Artificial Intelligence. It really is not as new as we may
think. Let’s check it out. Artificial intelligence is an
advanced technology, typically run by a series of algorithms,
computers, or robots, that use real-time data to simulate
human intelligence. In simplest terms, it is a series of complex
instructions that receive a request and output a response
based on the request and the complex instructions or
algorithms (logic).
